Begin the Begin

I am always starting. So as an experiment I am going to try to write something every day even it is totally crazy. I need to start. We just finished watching Breaking Bad Season 4 in the Slominski home. It is the second series we have watched together as a family since the last two seasons of Battlestar Galactica. Breaking Bad is a show that knows how to break the rules of dramatic television. It has literally created the camera as a character. It has created episodes that feel like small independent films. Its characters are so beautifully written, the actors are so great in their craft, you learn so much about them even when no words are used. The many different ways that the camera was used in this season was incredible. I love that they are telling a story with the real use of film. The different camera shots, the great outdoor locations that capture real cloud movement and always changing up the locations so you really see the whole world these characters inhabit. So many programs rarely use their location as an important part of the story. The Wire also had that great characteristic. We really love this show. We always have a great discussion afterwards about all the layers that are present in the show. I just can’t wait till it comes back. Ok that was a start. So as a practice for myself I’ll write more tomorrow.

The First

The First is my first attempt at keeping an online journal so to speak of my many adventures in tv viewing. The last many years of watching incredible programs such as The Wire, Battlestar Galactica ( before the ending but that's another story ) and many more I am consistently bring up tv talk with my family. We discussed the last season of Battlestar after every episode the following morning and that lead me to searching out every written word on the series. Finally my family after many years of listening to the constant tv talk have said ( especially my husband Jim) write a blog.
I will be posting from time to time the many thoughts I have about television and the great and not so great stuff out there. This is only the beginning.
